The results from a hair transplant surgery are meant to be permanent. Yes, you read that correctly. Hair transplant is a natural and permanent hair loss involving transplanting healthy hair follicles from the sides of your scalp to desired areas. The transplanted follicles are selected for their resistance to hair loss which makes the results long-lasting. This is effective for hair loss on the scalp, eyebrows and beard transplant
However, that doesn't mean that other hair loss will not happen. Planning for your hair transplant requires a detailed understanding of your hair loss pattern. Hair Growth From Hair Restoration If you are familiar with hair transplant procedures, you may know that full results take about 9-12 months following the procedure. Most commonly, a hair restoration specialist will recommend follicular unit extraction or FUE. A simpler process than traditional Follicular Unit Transplants (FUT) involving incisional cuts into the scalp. Early on after FUE hair transplant, the the recovery process will typically involve some shedding of the newly transplanted grafts. This can be alarming for many individuals but is common and expected. New growth will begin at 3-4 months post transplant. During this time, the grafted hair is growing and will go through the anagen phase for rapid healthy growth. Hair Medications These are both prescription and over-the-counter medications that can be used both before and after surgery to help individuals slow or halt the hair loss process, strengthen existing follicles and grow some new hair if taken regularly. Which is why it is usually recommended that the medications are to be continued following surgery. Minoxidil (brand name Rogaine) has been around for a number of years and is effective in slowing or stopping hair loss for both men and women. For some patients it can also promote hair regrowth. Finasteride (brand name Propecia) is available both in oral and topical formulation. It is successful in hair regrowth and slowing hair loss. Individuals who start taking finasteride responders have noticeable hair growth after the first three to four months. Both of these medications are typically recommended to hair transplant patients because it helps them hold on to the hair they do have as well promote new growth. It is also not uncommon for your hair transplant specialist to recommend PRP or exosomes for hair treatment post transplant.
